Russian-born, Philadelphia based artist Taisiya”Taya”Naumovich , recent graduate from Philadelphia’s FOX School of Business at Temple University, was born in Murmansk and from an early age moved to Vladivostok, the largest Russian port city on the Pacific Ocean located not far from North Korea and China.
As her father served in the Russian army, Naumovich recalls that it was her need to find creativity that she began painting and sketching to provide the impetus for her stimulation and at the same time, to show her indifference to comfort of the privileged luxury associated with the military lifestyle.
As a self-taught artist with no formal art training, she went onto study English at Komsomolsk-on-Amur Pedagogical University. In her paintings, Naumovich uses her brush in an experimental manner following her intuition to create abstract combinations of portraits or landscapes. Her thematic imagery, which often includes moving scenes of couples in embrace, courtship and beauty, compels sentiments of unadulterated youth that are completed in an attempt to achieve a correct representation of the things that touched her in some way. “I paint in an act of self-exploration just as pinpointing a destination on a map that I have yet to explore,” said Naumovich.
With maturity, the artist is moving towards finding a balance between spontaneity and freedom within a more organic approach using oil and acrylics to render her mixed media large format paintings. As an animator and writer of children’s stories, Naumovich is currently illustrating a collection of childhood stories with digital animation.
